  6. The sad thing is, this whole thing would be a lot easier to resolve if VIA still had combine cars. Edit: I'm referring to the 9300's that ran in the corridor when I say that.
  7. The question is whether the accessibility ruling against VIA is forcing their hands on the matter. In other words, rebuilding the cars satisfies "as soon as possible" while buying new cars would satisfy "as soon as practical."
  8. One wonders if VIA is going to finally bite the bullet and pad the schedule including the turnaround in Toronto and Vancouver.

  11. You can get that sort of spring mechanism at Home Depot. All I'm thinking of is a slightly scaled up version of a self closing fence gate.
  12. Honestly, all the gate needs to do is hide the entrance to the tunnel and put a big stop sign between the rails on both sides. It doesn't even need a motor. It just needs a spring mechanism with enough strength to keep it closed but can be pushed open by a vehicle going through.

  17. The plan is to rebuild the HEP 1 cars because of their iconic value on the Canadian. The HEP 2 cars don't have that same iconic value and thus aren't worth the cost of another life extension to say nothing about the additional cost of rebuilding their interiors for service on the Ocean.

I actually misread what you wrote because the Sheppard-Sheppard West extension would only move beyond a nice to have project after the line is extended to Richmond Hill and thus a Southbound-to-Westbound connection would be needed. (I read it as a question of being feasible rather than feasible with the existing junction.)
