  1. The double deckers are the worst offenders without a doubt, but the issue of noise pollution is present everywhere on the system. Trains going in and out of Union are a total nightmare. Irrelevant safety PSAs, irrelevant reminders not to forget your stuff on the train (anyone who needs a reminder not to forget their stuff probably shouldn't be running around without a court appointed legal guardian); there was product integration with some theater show, and perhaps the most obnoxious of all was the Santa Claus parade announcements, which were very loud and badly clipped. Every time they came on, every passenger in my immediate vicinity also looked around to see what the hell was going on. Then repeat the same nonsense, but in French. One train I was on I decided to time the announcements, and it ended up being a whopping 4 minutes of sheer irrelevant noise pollution. What the hell are they smoking at this agency? By comparison, the laconic TTC is an absolute dream. At least until you get on a Flexity, which has to have had sound design done by some Metrolinx consultant. Everyone needs to shut up.
  2. I think it would be far more preferable if there were far fewer announcements instead.
  3. If you'd been around in the 1960s when we had nearly 800 PCC cars, you would be asking the same question about them.
  4. Merry Christmas! I got: -an Airbus A380 scale model in the Korean Air livery -A Haunting in Venice on BluRay -Spiderman: Across the Spideverse on BluRay -The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame -Railway Adventure by LTC Rolt -Night Terrors: The Ghost Stories of E. F. Benson -New York by Edward Rutherfurd -The Death and Life of Great American Cities by Jane Jacobs -a book documenting the life and restoration of the oldest preserved Tatra T3 in the world, Prague 6102 -a book documenting the architecture and public spaces of Bratislava's old town -two comic compilations, Strange Planet and Stranger Planet by Nathan W Pyle -road atlas of Great Britain and Northern Ireland -a new hoodie -a new pair of jeans -an electric toothbrush
  5. I really don't want to start a flame war at Christmas, but every single argument you've just put forward could be used with equal validity to justify getting rid of every other historical vehicle the commission owns, and for that matter every single heritage thing the city, and the province, owns, or pays for in any capacity. Think of all the taxpayer money that could be used for politicians to travel to foreign countries on expensive vacations, instead. Other countries and jurisdictions have rich collections of history, do you really think boarding up a station exit and having someone to clean the displays once in a while will break the bank? No one said access to such a display had to be free, anyway.
  6. If the will existed to keep an SRT unit around (which I find shocking) I'm sure finding another location to store Crap and Stuff wouldn't be a difficult task.
  7. So the solution to having to wait for traffic lights is to spend extra money on grade seperation instead of having transit priority?
  8. Random thought: what was wrong with 7907, 7911, and 7939 that they had to retire 4 years ahead of the bulk of the series, but they were still good enough for SSM to take?
  9. The PR Toronto wishes it had.
  10. Is there anyone who was present on the last day of CLRVs who remembers what time the last trip with 4001 arrived at Russell? I have the timestamps on my own photos of these but I can't remember if I remembered to change the time on my camera - I have 4001 going out of service at 3:47 pm, but I don't know if that's accurate.
  11. Dundas & Dundas West stations proposed to be renamed https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/yonge-dundas-square-ttc-stations-to-be-renamed-under-new-city-council-proposal/article_6855de9e-9a8a-11ee-95ed-8348aef070b4.html
  12. 4605 has not run since December 9 - anyone know what's wrong with it?
  13. A few years ago I read Beyond Sing The Woods by Trygve Gulbranssen, an extremely rare Norwegian novel. There is a follow up that is even rarer that I tried to buy. The first order I placed got cancelled on me as apparently the book had been sold earlier that day. I placed an order from a different seller and that has also been cancelled because the book has already been sold!!! I'm furious. How the hell do I miss out on TWO copies of an extremely old, extremely rare book?!
  14. This problem has already been solved, long ago. Do you think pedestrian zones in Europe don't get deliveries or something?
  15. When I was running the CLRV tracking thread many years ago, towards the end, I would mark cars as inactive if they had not been in service for 5 days continuously.
  16. They did not - this money being given is contingent on the feds matching it. If the feds are not feeling generous, except no new rolling stock. https://toronto.ctvnews.ca/ontario-premier-doug-ford-and-toronto-mayor-olivia-chow-to-speak-as-interim-report-for-new-deal-due-1.6662065
  17. How fitting 9411 arrived on the same day the real 9411 last ran in service 8 years ago.
  18. 4605 has entered service on route 501 Quren today (i.e. Dec 3, 2023).
  19. If there wasn't photo proof of 4604 entering service on the 17th we'd probably be hearing about how that's fake too.
  20. I want to know how you know this. TransSee vehicle history won't show you any random place the vehicle was at while not signed in, so are you saying you just so happened to be watching 7047, out of all possible units, on TranSee all day?
  21. 4604 was on a shift scheduled to run in after 2 am, but it seems to have crapped out, it was replaced by 4542 just before 9 am. Why would yesterday not have been its 'official' entry into service? What's more official than a dog and pony show? TransSee was down for much of the day, but every time I opened it successfully it reported that the data was current.
  22. 4604 ended up doing one round trip from Leslie Barns via King to Dundas West and back. Surprised they wouldn't at least leave it out for the duration of rush hour, but I assume few people got a chance to see it, so yay bragging rights...? Some pictures of it. Identical to the original 204, and I have no idea why they would do a press conference for it, but considering I managed to get all 204 cars of the original order, I welcomed a chance to get this one, too.
