The Transitway between Tunney's Pasture and Dominion Station is slated to close down for LRT conversion this Spring (though not explicitly mentioned on the web site).

Buses on detour will be required to travel on Scott Street and serve the temporary Westboro Station and temporary Dominion Station (as well as the new bus-only Scott Street Extension between Churchill and the Ottawa River Parkway). PM Connexion Buses aren't going to be able to pass another bus the way they currently do once they are on detour.

This closure was postponed until June.

Got a chance to ride the new electric... here are my thoughts.

I find the suspension is really good and can absorb bumps better than Novas. I like at the front of the bus they have vertical yellow pull cords to ring the bell, kind of like the 1997 lfs... the bus is really quiet inside and the NSAS can be heard very loud and clearly unlike the Novas.

What I don't like. Accessibility standpoint, they expect you to rely on a little tiny check mark on the NSAS to confirm a stop request has been made. You can't hear the bell at all as a passenger despite the bus being quiet. Also a nitpick but it was missing that new bus smell which was ashame but I'm not surprised.

thanks to N. for the great ride and photo opportunity.👍

Unfortunately the new bus smell disappears after a few months, and we have had the buses for testing/training for a few months now.

Unless the microphone is sensitive, that heater/ventilation is obnoxiously loud. Probably inadvertently the byproduct of being so quiet, but if that's the case, then it ain't going to be fun to make a audio recording of a ride if I can't hear anything other than the ventilation.

If I get one tomorrow, it will be warm enough that I will likely have the heaters off tomorrow, for most of the day at least. Supposed to be doing the 16 and 81 so fingers crossed that I get it. Only 2103 is available for service right now.

Saw in a Facebook group that the XE40 has a passenger assistance alarm or PAA at the back of the bus. First standard 40 ft buses to receive them.

Only other units in the fleet are all double deckers and articulated buses that are 6404 and higher (D60LFR). They are in-place in case of an incident occurs in the back of the bus and if the passenger cannot reach the front to notify the operator. That is what the PAA is for.

That would be because the basic specs of this bus were followed from the last order we received from New Flyer. Hence the reasoning for Luminator Horizon signs also.

I spotted at least two of the XE40 buses parked inside the St. Laurent garage as I was driving by on St. Laurent Blvd. and Belfast Road this evening.  Of course, I couldn't catch the numbers because they were deep inside the garage and I only saw them briefly through an open door.

2102 and 2104 were plugged in at the back of lane 22 when I finished my shift. 2101 (weight simulation test) bus was parked at the front of 24. 2103 was not seen.

This thread should be moved to the Non-Transit Discussion forum.

This thread will not be moved to the Non-Transit area of the Ottawa section. Unlike other things in that section, this, in a way, is transit related and is placed appropriately.

Thank you for your opinion on the matter, however, my decision is final.

Yeah, it's not like we're going back to the CLASS system from the original Novas. I believe these bars are capacitive touch instead of a mechanical switch, which people will hopefully figure out pretty quickly.

When 6351-6398 were brand new, they were equipped with the touch bars rather than push bars. People get VERY aggressive with them, especially when the doors have a slower response. I can see the doors or at least, the bars, getting damaged very frequently because of this.

6481 suffered from spontaneous combustion an hour ago…

6481 has been decommissioned and will not return to service. The bus is being used for parts to repair other D60LFRs. The front door area of the bus has been removed to repair new collision damage to 6554 (unrelated to the collision repaired by Frankensteining it with 6677s front end).
