  1. Am assuming the Niagara Falls stop is to alight passengers going to stops before Toronto. I can assume that passengers are going to be encouraged to use GO to intermediate points, by bus or train. Fort Erie could be tricky, because one would have to use a local service by Niagara Transit to Niagara Square and connect to the Fort Erie shuttle there.
  2. The present way of doing things in Buffalo is somewhat broken, in my opinion. Transit police and bus drivers do not have enough control of situations with fighting, swearing and general misbehavior on a number of buses, whether a school tripper or general transit service for the public. I can't tell you how many times I've had students on buses "take over" and disrespect other passengers that are on these buses. Some regular passengers have even gone to the point of remarking on social media that they are afraid of the students, and try to avoid dismissal times where the majority of passengers are students. For years I relied on a school district to transport me on a bus (ONE bus) that I got to choose from daily. If one got kicked off the bus for misbehavior there were three choices; walk, have the parent transport, or rely on a friend that has a license (and car). With the COVID situation now, we also want to watch how "full" or "crush load" buses can get to.
  3. Saw that it "could". I'm curious if the new governor would do that, and it's worth mentioning, since another state has done it. That makes it a "not unheard of" situation.

  6. There's a separate tier of routes with limited service in the 100's range. Added service from the schools is also available in conventional routes and is supposed to be open door to conventional passengers too. Metro's got it's share of troubles with many cancelled trips daily, and I'm betting they're struggling to meet the schedules when they can. One recent weekday had nearly 60-70 trip cancellations for whatever reason. With that being said, I've seen Metro attempt methods that other state agencies have implemented, and am curious if they just might a drastic drop in service to minimize lost runs from the schedules.
  7. Feel bad for them, since they had just implemented their fall schedules within the past seven days. Centro announced they are reverting to an "enhanced" Saturday schedule this weekend, too. Locally (Buffalo), First Student allegedly had 30 drivers quit the day before classes, however, the number was dropped to 18 according to them. Curious if Metro may have to help out in some form, eventually.
  8. It's interesting, since the Niagara Street corridor benefited from a lot of changes to the streetscape and signals in the preparation of BRT service or a similar type of service. New (electric?) buses were supposed to be procured specific for this service. Right now, the NFTA is operating a limited-stop service on the 24-Genesee, and is proposing the same for routes 19 and 25, too. Could this be a rewrite of what the original plans were?
  9. Didn't think that they would get away without service to the Rochester Airport for long. Was surprised that this went on as long as it did.
  10. I beg to differ on the operation of open door on Niagara Street. At the present schedule, two buses leave Downtown on route 5 and 40 at 5:50pm. Just outside of the rush-hour period, the #5 takes (as per schedule) between 5:50pm and 6:20pm to run between Downtown and the BRRTC. It's companion bus on route 40 leaving at the same time is scheduled to arrive at 6:13pm, approximately seven minutes earlier. If the Niagara Falls bus operates "ahead" of the Niagara Street along any portion of the route it will be expected to take on passengers bound for points in the city, and begins the filling of that bus....a bus that will have passengers with luggage, will have passengers with children heading to Niagara Falls or Grand Island for Fantasy Island when it opens or to the Falls for sightseeing. Add to this, not all buses are locals. Buses will be spaced out an hour apart, which creates a very volatile situation for those wanting to go the full or further distance. It's kind of the same reason that the Broadway bus USED to service as far north as Lochland and Elaine, south to Harlem and Cayuga Creek, east to Depew, Lancaster and Alden. The buses were ridiculously loaded up, and there were a number of times that I had to wait for the next bus to Alden (30-40 minutes) because the bus arrived loaded at the Library with a good portion of the bus emptied out by Fillmore or Bailey, at the worst. Prior to COVID, the 1-William was at capacity (standing only) all the way to Lovejoy, and there were instances where I had seen passengers passed by with 20-30 headways between buses. Why the NFTA hasn't implemented the "Limited" bus for Niagara Street is baffling, especially after all the work that the City and NFTA had done to make it happen. If they're wondering if non-English speaking passengers won't understand it, they *could* program multi-lingual "Limitada" or "Limitodo" next to "Limited" on the destination sign. BTW, what ever happened to the schedules 3, 5 having a multi-lingual table? They used to do it. At present, the 40 is the only one. The NFTA is lucky that they are not REQUIRED to offer multi-lingual services, like Canadian businesses having English AND French translation on everything.

  12. Regrettably, the Gates area isn't in the "On Demand" zone, which I was hoping would explain a switch from local transit service.
  13. Good point out I should have mentioned too, since a number of trips service the area on a number of runs. Almost every diversion (except school trips) seem to have gotten the axe, much like NFTA-Metro's redesign in 1993, when "streamlining" routes to only a couple variations was the de rigour of the time. Personally, I thought that the soon to be departed system for RTS actually served the passengers better than the present Metro system. Only nitpicky thing was all those letters and symbols to decipher in the timetables. The real question now is...will the passengers that they have migrate to the new system if it requires a longer walk to the bus stop? I do remember an article a while back of how bad some of the suburban stops appeared, due to lack of sidewalks and road layouts. I can just imagine attempting to walk long distances in the shoulder of a road, especially at winter, or on a higher speed limit roadway.
  14. A curious part of the redesign involves elimination of public transit service to the Monroe County Airport (ROC). I'm curious of the local response of the service not being picked up by at least one route, though I don't know the amount of patronage over time. I'd think that they'd have some service out there.

  16. First, Happy New Year to all on CPTDB! I posted a number of months back, asking about the visual editor (which I use on occasion, specifically with working on tables and repeating of citations) and can't find any new responses regarding. Can anyone point me in the right direction, what happened, and if it'll be coming back anytime soon?   17. As one that would roll his eyes about the "heritage trolley" styling, I do have to agree that it's a slight selling point on visitors to cities, being on a trolley-style replica over a BRT styled bus. Has any BRT-styled bus (in any of the big manufacturers) managed to do a replica trolley?

Noticed that the NRT OnDemand pilot has started in Lincoln, Grimsby and Pelham, replacing (at least temporarily) conventional transit services in the West Niagara section of the Regional Municipality of Niagara.   20. Ahhh....that proves a different situation, instead of pleasure. Roomettes are quite the expensive part though. Can find lodging in Manhattan for less money a night.
  21. Noticed that the fare is more than triple (okay, quadruple) of the regular seat fare. Is flying an option either way? I see you're in between both Daytona Beach and Orlando, and wonder if a shorter ride into either city and maybe a public transit connection to the airport might be a little cheaper and less of a pita. If you fly into JFK, you *could* use the AirTrain into Jamaica and connect to the LIRR instead of being pushed through Penn Station, which I don't personally like doing when Amtraking it into the city. Also, nearly half of the time you're on the trip will be in darkness outside, depending on the dates traveled. Just my opinion though. That's an expensive hotel room for a day. Additionally (moderators), can this thread be bumped to "General Railway Discussion" section? I think it's a more appropriate location for the discussion.
  22. I remember seeing the Fishbowls frequently on my trips from Downtown all the way out to Alden on the 4-Broadway. I believe that I had mentioned it earlier in another post that it was common to see a line up of the 8 Main, 9 Parkside, 10 West Utica, 12 East Utica, 13 Kensington and 44 Lockport from Utica into downtown. By the time you arrived at Allen, you could also expect the 7 Baynes Richmond to join in. Buses also sported a rear window, and most of the buses had so much black exhaust belching out of the tailpipes. The 4 Broadway, 8 Main, 13 Kensington and 15 Seneca were the routes with the most variations, necessitating the branches like the "8U" which follows much of today's 34 Niagara Falls Boulevard bus. I even think that some of the routes went as far as using a "Z" branch. You also had to watch some of the buses that were early versions of "limited" service. Those buses had a red background where the letter was, and the side signage listed the "first stop", instead of the route. With the very frequent service on Broadway, you could see occasional "first stop Fillmore", or "first stop City Line" indicators so that heavy-patronized trips with suburban passengers got a seat, while city passengers would be on a following "City Line" destined trip. Wasn't perfect, but it did help distribute passenger loads. The CPTDB wiki has a page for the routes at: https://cptdb.ca/wiki/index.php/Routes_of_the_Niagara_Frontier_Transportation_Authority. It's an interesting read if you're curious about what routes did what at certain times.
  23. Curious if this may have an effect on the uLinc system too. They've been operating two years approximately, and run on an infrequent schedule. Not sure about the ridership, since I can't get over the border to check it out.
