Curious; is there some common/frequent reason why people fail out of training? Is it just "they suck at driving in general" and then they have that "suckiness" compounded by having to drive a big ol' city bus? Bad attitudes? Absent mindedness?

Anyone chime in here? Might be some things others in training could look out for.

I think it's mostly that some people have a tough time controlling their nerves on day 16. There are a few people that find out in the middle of training that the job is not for them and they quit. A very small few fail bacause they fail to listen to the trainers and/or do not do their homework.

Also, I predict there will be a higher percentage of quitters and/or fails as a result of the "fast tracking" through the hiring process. Just an opinion.

The change of moving up is very difficult.  People live Malvern.  I submiited a bid to move to malvern recently.  If my bid is approved, i will bump you down by one spot.  Sorry bud.

That's ok. I'm going to think that a lot more new hires are going to come in than moves. At least that's what I'm hoping for. Either way, I'm happy.

Day 16 test tomorrow for me :) nervous but excited at the same time

You'll do fine. Just control those nerves and don't let them get the best of you. The trainers do a really good job of over-preparing you for it. You'll laugh at how easy it was...after. Good luck.

  4. Training is now complete. Wow! What a ride. I can honestly say that it was a really excellent training program with excellent trainers who really have one goal in mind; to help you become a great transit operator and assist you in passing all your tests. Listen and absorb everything they tell you. Next hump is the 10 month probation period. See you out there.

Hey friends, what happens at the documentation session? What do I need to bring other than my criminal record check? Is there anything I need to prepare for?

I appreciate all the help and insight I received from this thread. Good luck everyone

You should have received an email with what you need to bring. It really depends on your situation. Read that email.

Is it normal to have to wait over 2 weeks after references are called to get a conditional offer? I trust my references so I know everything is good on that front.

It's usually a good sign your references were contacted. Just be patient.

Hey guys anyone know how they pay during training? Is it weekly or do they have some sort of hold? The search function on my phone is being weird right now so I can't really look.

I believe you get paid on your third week of training (Wednesday) and it'll be about 500 dollars, give or take.

  8. Onto Day 3 of training and I'm loving it. It's true what some of you had said, it depends on the person and on their experience of the training that determines if it's "hard" or "easy". I have been putting myself in a hard-working mentality. Basically, what you put into training is what you'll get out of it. And the instructors are awesome!

Thanks! As far as I know my references responded pretty well. They were all for me getting this job because I'm only working for them part time and seeking full time employment.

Just be patient. I was already celebrating when my references told me they were called.

  10. Anyone here going for training May 2nd?

    Hey guys,

I had my interview a couple of weeks ago and then my references got contacted a few days later. From what I've been reading, people who had their references contacted usually got an offer about a week later. It's been 3-4 weeks now since they contacted my references. Does anyone have any experiences waiting this long after their references have been contacted?

Usually it is a good sign your references got contacted and then its a matter of waiting. Either way, they will let you know if you pass or fail. Do you know how your references responded?

How do they typically contact you for documentation and/or to let you know you passed the medicals? Mail, email, phone call? I did my medicals about a month ago. My police clearance came back clear 3 weeks ago. Hoping to start training by mid May latest.

They will call you when they receive your results from Medisys and give you a date for documentation. Then they will send you an email with all the details. Occasionally you will receive a letter from MTO advising you that you passed your medical.

Congrats! It is by far not the 'Final leg!'... lol! A lot of work to be done and training is hard, but if you try to keep your head on straight... you will do well. Enjoy the feeling that comes with the 'call' and relish it!! Keep us posted!

Well, final leg in the application process (Step 10). Now to pass training. I'll keep you guys posted. And thank you! Relishing every second of it. :)
