  1. Hi all,

So after 4 years as a bus operator I've decided to make a switch. I applied to Rail Transit Car Mechanic trainee about a month ago and went through the tests and had a video panel interview last Wednesday (November 2). On the Friday (November 4) I received and email telling me that I am progressing to the next steps and they required 4 references from me. I provided them and now I am waiting.

Anyone here gone through a similar process? How long did it take for them to contact the references, mine have yet to be contacted. As an internal hire, I find it strange that they would ask me for professional references as I have been working with the company for 4 years already haha. I also had to provide references from my previous job and not supervisors/managers from TTC as I have not formed any relationship with them as an operator, hopefully that will be acceptable.

Hello everyone, My reference check was done! And I asked to my recruiter do I have to finish the Shadow assignment? But she told me she has everything at this point except my driver license copy! So I send that and waiting for further instruction, ex: Medical & Police etc. My question is Shadow assignment is mandatory? or not!

The job shadow was suppose to be done before interview. At least that was how it was for me 4 years ago. I guess if you already got this far and references are checked, then you should be ok

I guess there won't be any training at the beginning of January? Anyways I know it's been like super quiet here lately. Just wanted to say happy holidays to everyone here, stay safe! And hopefully next year will be better. See you all in the new year. Thanks for the helpful posts

Probably not with the new lockdown. Who really knows these days anymore.

    Hello guys,

Just re-done my medical and police records 2 weeks ago. Recruiter emailed me back saying training will resume around new year. Will need to go to the documentation appointment again. Why is is that? Why do I have to go thru all this again.

Probably because of the long break in between the process? Or maybe policies have changed in these past few months? Just be glad you got an email back from them regarding your process.

I like your point, it sounds logic, but the concern here is when.

People awaiting training / medical dates will probably be waiting a very very long time. They will need to recall operators laid off first before even thinking of new training classes.

Has anyone here recently finished training or started and would care to share their experience? Would be curious as to if you were successful and how many of your peers were successful as well.

My training partner failed day 15. It's unfortunate but it enabled me more 1 on 1 time with my instructor. He also had conflicts with my instructor prior to day 15. We had a new instructor on day 15 and he gave him the 2nd unsatisfactory for running a yellow light.

So it looks like people from the March, April, May and June fast tracked info session/conditional offer hasn't started yet?

From what a user said here, there is no training on Nov-Dec. There is a training going on in September (this month) so most likely there's a last batch on October before there's a break and training resumes in 2020.

Yeah sounds about right. If you don't get training date by the end of this month then expect training to start in January. You'll get to experience winter driving yayyy

My info was June 17, Med July 2, Police Clearance July 4. I was surprised that they said dec/jan training which was like 6 months. Looks like I won't start that time since your batch is earlier than mine. Unless they start my batch with your batch i'm assuming its going to be later. I guess I could take a nice vacation in January ?

Yeah enjoy a long vacation! You only get 2 weeks when you first start. I took mine in January and February =( should have spaced it out more, oh well the year is almost over anyways

On a side note, first day on the bus and driving was interesting lol, I'm sure my training partner will be pounding back the brews this weekend after how our trainer was with him today yikes it was a scene man, thankfully for myself but not at the same time , I have experience driving a transit bus and how they turn pivot points scanning at starts and stops and brake covering ect but the trainer is expecting a little bit more from me lol but I'm trying to put what I learned before when I got my bus license away and listen to how the TTC teaches and the way they want it done

I remember during training my instructor would get mad at my partner. When it was my turn to take over I could still feel the stress and negative energy from my instructor being placed on me. Not that I was doing a shit job but just from having to deal with my partner. It was quite stressful for me as well. Hopefully your instructor isn't like that with you.

My partner failed out on day 15 so from that day on I was alone with my instructor and it was much more calm.

Maybe not so much of a rumor that it will be in October, in preparation for some movement of some bodies in a year from THIS October and  find  bodies to occupy the new Division in Scarborough which is also rumored to be a jr division upon opening for service..

Mcnicoll is gonna be a junior division? I think not.

    Why what's the big deal?

I don't see the big deal actually about mount dennis other than I live in the east end of scarborough oh and thanks for the sarcastic messages of "good luck"

I only said that's rough because Mt Dennis is not close to you at all lol. I live in Scarborough and was lucky enough to get placed at Eglinton. Trust me when I say that it is a blessing to live close to division especially when you'll have splits that are 4 to 5 hours long. And there's no "sarcastic" good lucks given. I do mean good luck.
