  1. On that note, how does the XE40 handle in heavy snow/ice? I assume there is software to reduce the torque in slippery conditions, but I'm curious to hear from a drivers POV on how well it handles snow storms/icy conditions.
  2. Not at all. They do have better traction control systems though than the Inveros being 15 years newer. Though in my experience, the older, more experienced drivers can drive those Inveros in heavy snow/low traction with little issues. Alas, my comment made in jest was taken too seriously by some, which hey, what can you do about it...
  3. The NovaBus's are good in snow. Unfortunately, they don't do so well on ice...
  4. OC also tested a 40 ft EV Nova variety awhile back as well, mocking a Route 131 run in Orleans. @JCL managed to get a nice video of it being tested on his YT channel
  5. Not surprised by this. According to the Facebook group, eastern Ontario transit heritage, drivers already reported that they were doing their April bookings and had no route changes, indirectly implying line 2 was not going to be open on time. Obviously it's going to be key to pay attention to the June bookings which should start rolling out (IIRC) mid-late April. If drivers report changes to south end routes, chances are the train will be operating by or before the June service changes
  6. Is it me, or has the quality of drivers just done down since the recruitment requirements have been relaxed quite a bit? This morning, was waiting at Colonnade at Merivale, trying to turn left. When pulling up, couldn't help notice that despite there being 3 SIGNS saying no right turns on red () the driver of 4503 on the 83 (I assume Baseline) at 7:27 AM coming from Merivale garage did it anyways. Regardless of your opinion on rights on red or whether the driver could safely do it, it's the principle: Sign/law says no, yet you do it anyways. And if it's not purposeful, then why is a driver with perceptual blindness driving a bus? Even on the parkway at night, I've noticed *a few* bus drivers who will use their high beams, but fail to lower them in the face of oncoming traffic. I would have to return the favour for them to finally lower it (if they even lower them at all) but again, I shouldn't have to do that in the first place... If you look YouTube for "cancerman88" he has a BUNCH of other OC bus driver failing horribly - rolling stops, not merging properly, can't keep their lane, etc. I'm just concerned these drivers are going to kill someone one day because of their negligence and inattentiveness. Am I the only who feels this way?
  7. 35 non-frontline employees at OC Transpo were fired today. https://ottawa.ctvnews.ca/oc-transpo-reduces-workforce-as-revenues-stagnate-post-pandemic-1.6758132
  8. I was taking the bus the other day as my car was in the shop, but I couldn't help notice there was a new infobox circulating. It has a picture of a person, looks like a bus driver? Couldn't read it or anything as I only noticed it while riding the bus, but I assume it's a recruiting poster? It was on Route 11 between Tunney's and Woodroffe when I saw, forgot where though... Was just curious to see if anyone else has seen it and if they have a photo?
  9. It should be noted, If I'm not mistaken, 80% of the 91 trips weren't new bus trips when they first came out, but rather former 95X Baseline/Downtown/Blair trips. There were also some routes like the 82/84 that extended from Baseline as the 91 Laurier (which previously were 95 Downtown/Blair trips). Same applies to the old 92 Stittsville/St. Laurent. They just replaced Route 96A trips and didn't actually add more bus trips.
  10. Here's a digitized infobox map for Route 95 in September 1987. Huge thanks to Nick Hauser for providing the photo from his collection and giving me premission to digitze it for me to share with you all. Enjoy! (also, if anyone can inform me on what the correct fonts used for the "effective date" and the "95" on the top, as seen on Facebook, I'd appreciate the help to find that font name) Route 95 1987.pdf
  11. Probably just me not paying attention, but it has come to my attention that Happy Goat at Rideau has closed down... Anyone know when they closed? I honestly don't even remember when they opened as well. If anyone has either answer, that would be appreciated!
  12. Excellent documentation. If possible, are there any resources us wiki editors can refer to so we can have a general source of the information we can cite, or are these dates/units coming out of your memory? Why am I not surprised these Orion IIIs only had a 6 year lifespan...
  13. Honestly I hope they ditch Presto. Let's remember that for the longest of time they had no innovation whatsoever and no adaptation to modern tech until I was already too late. To this day there is still no Apple pay or Google/Samsung Wallet support to add your Presto card. It's **2023**, like come on!
  14. Who could have seen this coming... - "Trillium Line opening date slips toward summer 2024, Ottawa transit commission told." Link My final guess will be an opening in Fall 2024.

  16. I guess that stuff is electrical and all with the adjusters, but I never thought I would call the invero, "the Inferno" over a driver's seat catching fire...
  17. 6494 rear ended a pick up truck on Hwy. 417, running as route 61 (Tunney's?) near Moodie Drive this morning. No further details were provided other than that the "pick up driver was charged accordingly", so I personally assume the truck driver illegally merged into the bus lane without checking and got rear ended as a result. https://ottawa.ctvnews.ca/oc-transpo-bus-with-passengers-collides-with-pickup-truck-on-highway-417-1.6675734
  18. The STO may go on strike starting December 20th, if a contract is not agreed upon with the union and the city of Gatineau. STO drivers have been without a contract since 2019. https://ici.radio-canada.ca/nouvelle/2032232/chauffeurs-sto-autobus-outaouais-convention (French Only)
  19. OC (4633?) Was involved in a collision at Alta Vista/Industrial this morning. Photo courtesy of Robert Barber of 613 Wrecked on Facebook. Probably Novas unless the city has a greenwashing announcement to make during the luncheon, in which it would be electrics.
  20. CTV Reports that "sources" are telling them that it's likely that Doug Ford may provide a similar deal to Ottawa like he did with Toronto in regards to transit and a highway take over. It's alleged the highway in question, would be highway 174, which used to be run by the province (numbered highway 17), until Mike Harris downloaded the highway onto RMOCs budget book. In addition, the ON gov may also provide more **operational** funding for OC Transpo, if a similar deal is made between Queen's Park and Ottawa. https://ottawa.ctvnews.ca/deal-between-ottawa-and-province-similar-to-toronto-likely-coming-sources-1.6662824
  21. By keeping the Transitway, which had no need for a bridge in the first place
  22. The Dominion Bridge reopens today after closing Saturday when "a plate" was discovered loose. https://ottawa.ctvnews.ca/oc-transpo-says-west-end-detours-to-end-monday-1.6661533
  23. So it seems the counselors have given the transit planners hell because a lot of routes have just been rejigged in the proposals. For example, people in Foster Farm were not happy of bus removal service during off peak hours. So it seems the 81 will not go via Greenbank, Craig Henry to Baseline, and will instead go to Bayshore via DuMaurier and Ramsey and Richmomd, filling in the gap. The 82 will also continue to run all day/seven days a week and will still run on its regular route, minus the deviation to Morrison and Lincoln via Pinecrest/Richmond. Morrison will still continue to receive all day service, thankfully. That was my biggest concern, taking transit options away from less fortunate communities. Good to see they're at least listening to something... Link: http://kitchissippiward.ca/content/oc-transpo-route-review download revised proposals at the bottom.
  24. As a side note, the 189 not also travelling via Hunt Club and Woodroffe is also a big L. Merivale is jammed even at noon, and they want the 189 to go via Merivale and Meadowlands? That's not going to work out to well for the workers at Colonnade who just want to go to Baseline the fastest way possible and take the train home. Yes even hunt Club gets jammed, so honestly, why not travel Merivale southbound to Slack, then ride along Slack to Woodroffe then continue regular route to Baseline?
  25. To be fair, I think even (Transplan 2000?) had fierce opposition to the proposal on the removal of the 2 on Jasmine. Even if 2 people ride it there, it seems the community will coordinate some kind of action to be vocal in opposition to ANY removal of service, but adding the 24 there as well is dumb, IMO
