    VIA Rail Canada

If you wanted to divert all of CN's traffic onto the CP Belleville Subdivision (as the poster above suggested), an additional one to two tracks would probably have to be added (depending on the location) to handle the increased freight traffic. And as for the grade crossings, doesn't Transport Canada have a 110 mph speed restriction on lines that aren't fully grade separated? Now I'll grant you 110 is better than the status quo, but the new trains could potentially go 125 without crossings. I do agree that the current proposal to rebuild the old Ontario and Quebec route is kind of strange, but VIA seems to think otherwise. The idea of rerouting VIA onto the Belleville sub is interesting (although it would probably mean skipping over Kingston and Brockville on runs to Ottawa). I still think the biggest obstacle to these plans is convincing freight RRs to give up large portions of track.

Easier said than done. Adding at least two additional tracks to the entire CP route would not be a cheap endeavor. Plus, you'd still have all of the old legacy infrastructure along the CN route (like grade crossings) that would need to be upgraded for true high speed service. And that's just assuming the private freight RRs would be ok with this plan (but realistically, look at how far the Toronto freight bypass proposal has come, for example).

    Ontario Northland Railway

So I heard on another forum that ONR will be taking delivery of two ex Amtrak F40s that have been converted to cab/generator cars. Does anyone have more information about what these are intended for?

2019 Tim Hortons RRRoll Up the Rim to Win

Today was the first time I ever rolled up the rim, and I won a coffee (which I don't even drink).

    Prince George's County Transit, MD

Yep 2012 was the last time. I'd assume the days of the remaining Thomas units are numbered (if they aren't already OOS). Not sure if this will effect the Phantoms.

    Boeing 737 MAX

I'm not saying the ban will be lifted the second the update is released, but Boeing will probably use it to petition the regulatory authorities. I actually won't be terribly surprised if the MAX grounding lasts for several months (like what happened to the 787 in 2013).

    Boeing 737 MAX

I wouldn't be worried about your upcoming flight (which is months off anyway), because they'll just substitute another plane. Boeing is supposed to be working on a software update to the MCAS system that should be released next month (which could potentially end the groundings).

    Prince George's County Transit, MD

Since there now a topic for PG County, I thought I'd mention that photos have surfaced of a brand new 35' Diesel ElDorado Axess BRT (63014) in The Bus colors. I haven't yet found out how many were ordered.

    Boeing 737 MAX

While neither incident happened in Western countries, the concern about the MCAS system applies to all 737 MAXs. Lion Air (like other Asian low fare carriers) does have a somewhat sketchy reputation when it comes to safety. After all, why didn't they pull the doomed plane from service after the previous crew had reported a problem? Ethiopian on the other hand has a pretty good safety reputation when compared to most other African carriers. What I can't speak for is whether MAX pilots working for airlines in the developing have received as much training about MCAS and the other new systems on these planes as those from Western countries.

What are you eating right now?

There was like one layer of noodles. The rest of it was just a heaping mess of greasy ground beef and cooked vegetables they had probably salvaged from the salad bar. There weren't any other types of pasta in it as far as I could tell, although the photo I took made it look that way.

There are still a few at FMR, and I'd recommend using transsee.ca to search for vehicles by fleet numbers. There are also a couple of XDE40s and an XDE60 OOS right now.

None have been scrapped, but there are a few with rather severe damage at CET that may or may not ever return to service. I think there are still a few at FMR, but most of theirs were moved to Bladensburg last year. These buses are being retired because a) they are old enough to be considered for retirement (they are all at least 12 years old), and b) new buses have been delivered to replace them.

The university cafeteria calls it lasagna, but I beg to differ...

The AN460s were bought by DASH for shuttle services during upcoming closures on the Yellow and Blue lines due to platform reconstruction. Also, 7100 crashed into a pole, so it will be out of service for a while (if not permanently). They were using 4 5000s for Silver Line tests yesterday, alongside 4 3000s. Attached is a photo of one at Dulles.

Yes, close to a dozen 3200 series units have been delivered to CET.

They will also be retiring some of their older Vs. Northern has been losing its artics because of structural issues at the aging garage (which was originally a Capital Transit carbarn). I can't find a good answer about what's been going on with the NABI artics, but most of the rumors indicate mechanical issues are to blame. They are due to be replaced sometime next year, but I don't believe any have been retired yet. Another item worth noting: some of the MetroExtra scheme Orion VII CNGs are starting to retire, so it would be reasonable to assume that a portion of the new XN40 order will be delivered in the MetroExtra scheme.

    GOA transit news, info etc

Even if that were to be the case, the severity of the damage suggests that the impact occurred at a relatively high rate of speed. Does anyone know what the speed limit going into/through Westboro station is?

    TTC Delays and Disruptions

There were apparently signal issues this afternoon on Line 2 between Warden and Kennedy. The train I was on took about 20 minutes to travel between the two stations. Anyone know more?

Yeah they started running a few of the 2500s out of SP earlier this year, but it wasn't anything serious. I don't have the exact numbers, but there are still D40LFRs stationed there. They've had a few of them over there since the fall of 2016.

    Miscellaneous TTC Discussion & Questions

That's good. I witnessed the 7 detouring on Spadina Road earlier this year, and it was slow and messy. A less ambitious detour also wouldn't affect as many of the stops between Eglinton and St. Clair West.

    Today's Special Sightings

I'm not quite sure why 1079 remained on the 33, especially because during the late afternoon and evening, 8159 was also doing that route. This too is unusual, as the 33 reverted back to using just one bus (with half hourly service headways) this past summer.
