  1. Clark.... this is the last time I'm going to address your post. I understand from a previous post, that you finally see that fleet movements are "out of your control" and you're just sharing what you think they should be. Ok. Stop wasting your time. Whatever happens, will happen. Metro will ensure that some kind of a bus will operate the trip you're waiting for. As for reasons of why new coaches are going to a specific base, or why other coaches are being moved around to replace older coaches.... we don't know. There is a spreadsheet that we see the PROJECTED number of each fleet type to each base. (again, always subject to change, and believe me, these do often change) We don't have reasons, or explanations available, just a spreadsheet to look at, so please stop asking for reasons. Ok, to answer your question above, the projections show the first 11 3600's retiring out of Ryerson. As the 100 7300's go to Bellevue, Bellevue will keep their 3700's but all 7200's will end up at South. South will send some 7000's to Ryerson, and those will take care of approx. 11 3600's. The whole fleet will retire, these will just be the first. Again, these are just projections. I hope that answers all of you questions Clark. I'm not touching on the issue of the 8100/8200's again, because we don't know the reasons behind it. Please just leave it that this. We don't know all the answers. Metro does what it wants, because they can. I'm sorry if it's not what you agree with or want, but it is what it is.
  2. The information coming out about future deliveries, comes from a Metro Fleet Projection spreadsheet which is always subject to change and is preliminary. The listing for 8300's doesn't actually say Rapid Ride, but says XDE60 3 door "BRT ready". That's leads me to believe it's Rapid Ride, and would make sense, given that the G and H lines will come online in the next couple years. Also, I think it's very possible, given the fact this spreadsheet is preliminary, that it could say 8300's, but should've said 6300's. 8100's and 8200's will replace 2300's, 2800's and begin to replace 2600's. As 8300's (likely 6300's) come in, and Rapid Ride lines replace existing routes, that'll replace more 2600's. That being said, they don't have to go to a base and directly replace an old bus. South, East get 8100's. Replace 2300's (South). And as those come in to East, enough 68/6900's with rotate to North, to replace 2300's. (North always get oldest equipment. Please don't ask why.... it just happens and I don't have a reason) Ryerson, Central will get 8200's, which will replace 2300, 2800's (Ryerson) and begin to replace 2600's (Central)
  3. We're going to go through this again? Why do you think that the numbers of the 7200's have to match the numbers of the 3700's at a base?
  4. The supervisor offices over looking CPS and Int'l Dist Stn are not unmanned. There are 3 supervisor shifts per day at each end of the tunnel, from open to close.
  5. Yes, that is the run I mentioned above. It's always a 3700. When it gets back to Eastgate, it operates 226/241's the rest of the day. Most weekday runs are 1100's on the 221, but there are a couple runs that are scheduled to use 3700's. So it's on an unusual thing, to see a couple 3700's out there. They're supposed to be there. Weekends on the 221 are a mix of 3700's and 7200's because they're mixed with 226/241 on weekends. My Sunday 221 was a 7200. Just because you see 1100's most of the time, doesn't mean all runs use the same equipment. Now that the Bredas are gone, ALL Metro and ST articulated buses are powered by the rear axle. In the past Metro has had some middle axle powered coaches, but no more. Bredas were electric powered middle axle, and rear axle powered in diesel mode.
  6. What time of day was this? There is a run on the 226/241 that does a round trip on 246 in the morning and uses a 3700
  7. Clarkwang.... The 8000's are good at Ryerson, on busy city routes because of their 3 doors. I'd imagine if they were to move any to another base, they'd go to Central which supplies buses for the 40 and 120. But sending them to North and South, to replace 2300's (which they will eventually when more are ordered) doesn't make sense because most of those buses sit in the yard all day, and are only used for only peak service. Keep the 8000's running on the busy all day service.
  8. Why does it matter? Seems to me as they a distributed pretty properly. Why would you split up the XDE40's? If so, then Bellevue would get some 3600's or 7000's to off set the loss and would unnecessarily have to start stocking parts, and training Bellevue operators and mechanics on those coaches. Yes the 3700s are split up, but that's because three bases require smaller coaches. But in terms of 40 footers, keeping a particular fleet at a base makes sense. In terms of stocking parts, training mechanics, training operators, etc. South and Central are all 7000's, North is all 3600s, Ryerson has only a mix of 3600 & 7000s. Bellevue has all 7200s and the few leftover Gilligs. Speaking of Gilligs..... There's so few Gilligs left, why wouldn't you keep them all (1100's & 3200's) at one base. Keep all the parts at one base. There's so few Gilligs, that they don't even train new operators on them, unless the specifically picture a run out of Bellevue. There are reasons that the fleet of distributed the way it is. Gilligs will be replaced before 3600's. No plan of retiring 3600's any time soon. Rumor has it, that KCM has placed an order for 100 40' Low Floor BAE powered Hybrid Gilligs. Not sure if they'll be ordered on the BRT or regular version. Plus 8 more Proterras. Heard this info from someone in procurement. They'll obviously replace the remaining 3200's. As for the 1100's, I'm not sure yet. It's possible with 108 extra 40' cosches, that they could be shifted to runs currently using 3700's, and 3700's could move over to runs using 1100's. There's only 35 1100's left to replace, so its would take much to make it work. Again, that's just one theory. So who really knows.
  9. I'm not going to get into this much, because we've been over this more than once before. Metro move equipment around to based on the needs to operate their service. Every service change there are changes, some minor, some major, which sometimes requires equipment to be shifted around. Also, new equipment coming in can also affect this too. I don't know why BB is losing a 3700 or two, it's just happening. Equipment shifts happen all the time. The matter of the 7200's were originally, moving the 10 3200's at South to Bellevue to have the remaining 3200's at one base. That why 7250-59 went South. 2 came back this summer. I'm not completely sure why they're all coming back to Bellevue now, but it's possible that South's service change can allow them to run with 8 less 40 foot coaches. Another more likely possibility could be, with the 8000's coming into Ryerson, some 2300's have been moved to South for more capacity on commuter runs (previously filled with 40' coaches), then shifting 7200's back to Bellevue. So basically, 8000's not replacing 2300's but rather repalcing 3200's through a series of shifting equipment around. On the topic of electric buses, we're getting 8 more probably next year. Any more will be a long way off, as a process of new procurement will take time. So those 8 more will just go towards getting rid of more remaining 3200's.
  10. Yes, they are supposed to all be back at Bellevue Base, but I'm on vacation and can't confirm that they are all ACTUALLY back yet. I am not sure of the reasoning, but I'd assume that maybe the new shakeup for South didn't require as many 40 foot buses and the 8 7200's are being sent back to Bellevue to be with the rest of the 7200's. I also believe that South will Gain 1 or 2 3700's from Bellevue.
  11. Are you referring to the fact that the "B" is displayed differently than all the other Rapid Ride signage? If so then yes. It displays it like this on the Bellevue bound trip, until it reaches NE 8th/156th NE, then the "B" is normal back shaded after it loses its via destination and display Bellevue TC only. It's been like this since B Line started and it bothers me (because I like things to be correct and uniform) but as a driver I have no control over it. I've written it up, but it doesn't seem like a problem to the marketing dept, who handles the signage programming.

A fallback is when the bus or train, in this case the bus, is scheduled for a very short turnaround, and in order to give the operator more break time, the operator will "fall back" onto the next arriving bus. Once the operator has relieved the operator from the next bus, that operator will wait around at Bellevue transit center and relieve the operator on the next arriving bus. And so on and so on. When Link initially started in 2009, and was running to TIBS only, the majority of the day a fallback system was in place, allowing light rail operators the opportunity to have a break and access to restroom facilities, due to no facilities being close by to the platform. Every operator would be relieved as they arrived TIBS, and would have time to run downstairs to the restroom and then back up by the time the next train arrived to take over. A system like this, operating on the B Line, allows the scheduler to run the same service with one less bus, saving service hours and essentially miles and wear and tear on one last bus. However, in this case I would not say that fallbacks are allowing East Base to give up two RR buses, because all fallbacks are taking place off-peak, between morning and afternoon rush hours only, when there are several available buses parked at the base between trippers. There is still a need for the same number of RR coaches during peak hour, whether there is off-peak fallbacks or not. I think Downtown just needed RR equipment more, and took a couple of what East would consider "spares" and that is why you're seeing at least one, sometimes two 6800/6900's out on the B Line much more often lately.
  13. Clarkwang.... Why does all this matter anyway? Metro moves equipment around all the time. It just happens, for a lot of reasons. When I got to Bellevue Base this morning, I checked and 7250 and 7251 are back at Bellevue Base this shakeup. Not sure why, not sure if they traded SB any 3700's or if Bellevue Base just needed two more buses to keep up with maintenance work, who knows. But that's the facts, BB has 52, SB has 8 7200's. I'm just happy that two came to BB, because my one day a week driving a 3200 on 271 on Wednesdays that I picked, got switched to a 7200, so it benefited me.
  14. OMG!!! Enough already. Retired, not in service, scrapped, all of the above. The list is not maintained by King County Metro, it is maintained by people in this discussion board. Yes it could be updated, there are a lot more retired then show on this list. The information on these fleet lists, are not always accurate.
