Last bus ride of 2018. And First of 2019

Last ride of 2018: four in one trip: SMART 2016 Gillig BRT (3601), route 125 DDOT 2012 Gillig Low Floor (1230), route 19 DDOT 2005 New Flyer D40LF (420?), route 19 SMART 2016 Gillig BRT (3604), route 125 First ride of 2019: will be added when it happens, but knowing SMART, probably another Gillig BRT. Again, four in one trip: SMART 2017 Gillig BRT (3763), route 125 DDOT 2012 Gillig Low Floor (1224), route 19 DDOT 2005 New Flyer D40LF (4111), route 19 SMART 2016 Gillig BRT (3605), route 125

    Transit Moments of 2018

Photos of 2018: It's a hard choice, so here's a few: Vehicles of 2018: The Cleveland RTA's Gillig BRTPlus CNGs and DDOT's 2018 XD40s. Events of 2018: June trip to Cleveland where I got to fan the RTA's various bus, heavy rail and light rail vehicles, including the Red Line's Tokyu cars, using pantographs to accommodate this subway line's unusual use of overhead wire as an electrical source, and a ride on a Gillig BRTPlus CNG to get me from a few blocks from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to a few blocks from the house from A Christmas Story (itself having had it's 35th anniversary this year). Also, using SMART's Fast express pre-BRT service in August, eight months after it's New Year's Day 2018 opening, thanks to a promotion they had with the Detroit Zoo. Finally, again in June, one week after the Cleveland trip, Ford Motor Company's Michigan Central Station open house to commemorate their purchasing of that vacant railroad station and their long-overdue plans to restore it. Disliked move of 2018 by a transit agency: SMART abruptly placing their junky 2002 Gillig Low Floors back into service thanks to a shortage brought forth by the opening of Fast. To tell you how junky they still were, I had to ride one on route 125 in March and it broke down less than a mile after I got on due to brake problems. In addition, this leads me to: Transit WTF moment of 2018: SMART delaying their acceptance, delivery and entry into service of their 2018 Gillig BRTs due to manufacturer issues. Indeed at the time I write this they still have yet to enter service. Transit agency of 2018: Cleveland RTA for their CNG fleet and their diverse rail system. Charter of 2018: Going back to old ways, which automatically means I did not go to a charter this year.

https://cptdb.ca/wiki/index.php/File:Detroit_Department_of_Transportation_1800-a.jpg The Detroit Department of Transportation recently unveiled a new livery, a new logo and a new route numbering system for their highest-ridership routes. Pictured is 1800, a 2018 New Flyer XD40, which is one of many New Flyer Xclesior buses that DDOT has applied the new livery to, seen operating route 52 Chene, one of thirteen routes that were renumbered.

Only Chicago is payware, but the rest are freeware. Speaking of which, here's an updated list to reflect only maps publically available as of right now (excluding Facebook threads): Chicago Downtown (Illinois, USA; payware, includes a D40LF and a DE60LF) Daytonford County 1995-2015 (Michigan, USA) Grundelphia (Pennsylvania and New Jersey, USA) New John City (Ontario, Canada) Liberty (New York, USA) Willshire (Ontario, Canada) Cayuga, USA (fictitious state between Pennsylvania and New Jersey, USA) Cayuga Midwest (fictitious state between Illinois and Indiana, USA) New Era Transit (New York, USA) No Detroit maps are currently available at this moment, though I am working on a fictionalized Detroit map that I hope to have out by the end of this year. Also, the Porais website is temporarily offline, though there is another site that has, for free download, almost all of the buses that were on Porais: https://mta3306.github.io/mtaWebSite/downloadspage.html

    Transit Related Dreams

I had a dream last night that I went to a reopened Michigan Central Station which had rebuilt it's shed. For some reason I boarded an eastbound DDOT 19 from one of the platforms and once I got into downtown Detroit for some bizarre reason I was teleported to an identical-looking train station...in Chicago. After having to endure a huge crowd, a restored CTA 6000-Series train (painted in their bicentennial scheme) arrived and I got on the train, which somehow had white walls and aisle seating. While describing this on my cell phone, the train began moving right down various streets towards the Chicago Loop as if it were a bus. Then as we entered the Loop proper, we suddenly turned into a loading bay area that opened up (like something you'd see out of Star Trek or Star Wars) to reveal a subway tunnel portal. As we went through that portal, there was...to make this even weirder...an entire TTC Gloucester subway train passed us heading in the opposite direction, all while I heard the Rush song "Twilight Zone" blaring from somewhere. It turned out that a movie about Rush was being filmed at that exact time and I somehow managed to land a role in the movie as an extra!

Did you ever drop/break your camera?

Welp, since then, I've dropped it twice. One of these times was back in December 2017 while checking out Christmas lights in downtown Detroit.

    General WTF Moments

While I was in the Detroit Institute of Arts today, someone decided for an unknown reason to turn on the fire alarms. It caught me by big surprise and even came close to damaging my ears.

    Transit Windsor

Even though the 2018 LFSes have pretty much taken over the Tunnel Bus lately, there are still occasions when a different bus will be on at least one of the runs. For example, today 2013 XD40 632 was spotted on a Tunnel Bus run in Detroit.
  12. I upload a wide variety of things on my Youtube page (in fact I use a different name there than I do here), but just yesterday I decided to get back into transit ride videos. I so far have two episodes from this season of rides on two of SMART's Gillig BRTs on route 125.

I had a dream either last night or the night before that DDOT was renumbering additional routes because they decided to add additional routes to their ConnectTen system (and probably renaming it to reflect the new routes too).

    SMART (Detroit)

A sigh of relief in Macomb County as SMART's millage there survived yesterday's recount. When it was originally counted on August 7, it passed by less than 25 votes, while it easily passed in Oakland and Wayne Counties. https://www.macombdaily.com/news/smart-bus-tax-vote-survives-recount-in-macomb-county/article_66b4f780-ac53-11e8-82d7-83883ebbf5ca.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwD02FTCYU0

During a dream that I had two nights ago, I was in Chicago and was riding the CTA Blue Line, which for some reason had... -much smaller railcars -station ceiling hights quite more similar to Washington's Metro -I was boarding from a station on Lake Street near where the line curves northwest to run under Milwaukee Avenue, which would place this station in...of all places...under the Chicago River

During a dream that I had last night, I was looking at SMART's website tracker and one 160 run was being done with a 2002 Gillig starting with 224 (forgot the last two digits), but the other 160 run was being done with a vehicle numbered 22300...which has never existed.
