    The Wilson techs have been doing MTO related repairs for other divisions as their workload has nosedived with all the new equipment/warranty coverage. Gotta give them something to chew on to justify their paycheque.

    Powertrain component overhaul. Air compressor, alternator, starter, water pump etc get replaced. Ancillaries that can lead to a road call.

    The 84s are about due for their SMP powertrain refresh. Expect them to pop up a various divisions one or two at a time soon.

    Somewhat surprising they would intentionally pick highway 17 as their route over the top of Lake Superior. 11 is much flatter and safer for oversize loads, with only about a 2.5 hour travel time penalty. That stretch of 17 is Ontario’s version of the Coquihalla.

    I’m through repeating myself. The clearance restrictions only apply to the older hybrids, and this is why. The 83s would be fine.

    Everyone always puts the GMs on a pedestal, thinking they lasted over 20 years naturally. It was a shit ton of expensive labour, performed several times over. Bulkheads were still replaced piecemeal long before Gunn showed up. If the people controlling the money were to invoke austerity measures again, the current fleet would last as long as well.

    Which also have roof hvac. It’s the hybrids that present the clearance issue.

    I predict the city’s and provinces’s finances are going to flip the chessboard on the electrification timeline very soon. We’re heading for a recession, and it will trickle down to public services. To add, if the CPC forms the next federal government….. Certainly I’m not excited about it, but I can read the room.
