  1. the ttc orion 7's (the diesel ones, the hybrids are a whole other kettle 'o fish) are set up in this way. it's supposed to extend brake lining life. the older allisons are activated on brake application. honestly all those parameters can be changed pretty easily be it voith, allison of zf.
  2. ........ actually cis back at the division can track you to within 500m or so of accuracy. there are microwave 'signposts' set up on roadside poles along any given route, plus there are sensors on the driveshaft that help to fill in that accuracy gap by using the 'dead reckoning' method. long story short, if a supervisor standing for the 2 minutes silence happend to glance down at his computer terminal and spot him moving, he's busted.
  3. i wear them too on occasion. it reduces loud stuff to a comfortable level, but i can still easily hear someone speaking next to me.
  4. it always has been by mutual agreement between the atu and the city to maintain service for medical procedures (kidney dialysis and the like). this really changes nothing. precisely. there's always work to rule tactics. .....perhaps the whole shift at the gararge were to suddenly come down with food poisoning for 24hrs? that would be unfortunate.
  5. heh heh....ewww. did they have to put the entrence THERE?
  6. 1662 is at malvern, no sign of 1666 yet though. i did a test run through stc with 1679 at about 1 pm. was that was what you saw?
  7. pretty much. honestly it's not that often that it's more than an hour or so before abrahms hooks it up. exceptions are when the abrahms fleet is overtaxed (during snowstorms, etc.) thornhill towing is a pretty small outfit, so prompt customer service is important, especially if it's for a large customer like yrt. if they call, i'm pretty sure they get priority over all others. abrahms is pretty much the only company big enough to guarantee available trucks 24 hrs a day. it's more or less a sole- sourced contract, so they don't 'care' as much.
  8. it's a little morbid to laugh at an accident such as this.
  9. the majority of the 9400s received the fiberglass sides the first time around in rebuild. the remainder will be done when it becomes necessary. the rtses that were done after the 9400s have stainless steel side skins, so no work is needed. the 7300s are being done currently, wether or not they get them i don't know, but on the whole d40lf's don't seem to get the same cosmetic rust blemishes. everything after 7400 has composite side skins as standard equipment as built from the factory, so nothing other than the odd coat of paint will be needed.
  10. sorry, i can't comment as i haven't received any bike rack training like the operators have. although this minimum wheel diameter spec is a new one to me. i'll have to nab a cpoy of the driver's handout from the traffic office and look it up.
  11. they've got everything up to 7053 or so completed. above that number it's kinda hit and miss. 7103 (or 7109?), 7123, 7059, 7113 have been done recently. they seem to be filling in the gaps in numerical order now. 7092 is complete, duncan is still hanging on to it for some reason, i don't know what exactly.
  12. 2773 has had it's plates removed, and is awaiting it's tow to duncan for decommissioning.
  13. that was me going to duncan on a parts run. i had just finished the install on 1239 (wiring, sign etc...), except that i was out of gps units and computers. since she can't be released for service till i finish, it was as good a vehicle as any to use to get me there and back. - i'll have her complete and in service tomorrow.
  14. the ttc system was designed internally by us, the only off the shelf component is the gps tracking module which comes from an outfit called strategic mapping. the actual guts of the system are comprised of a modified home pc cpu running windows with an internal audio amplifier of some sort. the announcements themselves are actually wave files.
  15. there are 2 30 foot gms (1 old look and 1 new look respectively) located in a soundastage parking lot on lakeshore boulevard, west of leslie. they're both in pretty decent condition, and both still run. well, at least the new look does, i got to drive it around the ca-ar parking lot when the owner dropped it off for some maintenance years ago.
  16. and it'll be up to orion to go after the battery supplier themselves to recoup their losses. the ttc bought a bus, not a bunch of batteries with a bus conveniently tucked underneath it as an afterthought. it's not our job to witch hunt the individual suppliers. if orion decides to use a shit product in their vehicles, then that's their cross to bear. all i'm concerned with is the abysmal mean distance between failure rate regarding the batteries. the smaller than expected fuel savings may well be the ttc's own fault. the ttc can afford some pretty good lawyers too.
  17. unlikely. they've had mc102s of that configuration for quite some time now.
  18. over the long run i'd say so, but it also depends on how long the warranty lasts. the legat dep't would like to see them pay for it as they've pretty much misrepresented the quality of the batteries and effectively breached the contract.
