    TTC Orion VII Retirements

I’m going to deduce that you’ve been here before under another username, since this current incarnation only came about Saturday. It usually takes more than 48 hours to get passive aggressive..but hey, maybe this is a new record attempt. Two former members who were “employees” immediately spring to mind.

It’s analogous to the “drunk alarm” on the GMs. All the buses have them in some form. It’s supposed to be activated whenever the door leaves are pushed while the lock pawl is engaged, or the sensitive edge is triggered. The current ongoing problem on the late model Novas is trying to dial in the sensitivity correctly. Also, some of the sensitive edges are touching the floor on the bottom, this can set them off over rough roads as the door leaves have some vertical play.

    TTC Electric Buses

In theory during delivery, the 200-250 mile range will be used up in about four hours of continuous interstate driving at 65 miles per hour, and that’s not even counting the diminishing efficiency of maintaining a speed greater than 55 mph. (Since you cited the US, I’m keeping the units imperial) What do you suggest they do for the other 8 hours?

On second thought, better not to get involved in this dumpster fire.

    Miscellaneous TTC Discussion & Questions

Nope. To the best of my information, the only outstanding units are the remaining 7900s, however many survive until then.
  12. Unfortunately, that definitely ventures into non disclosure agreement territory.

    TTC's CAD/AVL "Vision" System

The mature response would be silence. If you’re confident in your position and sources, you’ll realize you’ve nothing to prove to others. Especially foamy children. If they believe you, fine. If they don’t, that’s not your problem.
  14. All remaining orions in the fleet are to be retrofitted with front door sensitive edges, and associated brake interlocks. Campaign should be completed by December.

Are there transit systems you're jealous of?

^I can confirm that as true. It took a lot of reverse engineering to tweak them into something that resembled reliable during their overhaul.

They had to severely amputate what was left just to free it from the stump of the pole to re open the intersection in a reasonable timeframe, so the scope of work would be even larger than just what was sustained in the collision. To a point this is true. NATSCO has made quite a niche buisness out of precisely this. Fibreglass and windshield parts at the time could still be obtained, the rest can be handled be a mitre chop saw, and proper grade stainless tubing and skilled welder. That’s what happens in the factory anyway. Just more labour intensive because you’re working without a jig. some electrical harnesses are divided into zones and can be purchased as well, but can be made in house if absolutely necessary, the commission has accounts with the same suppliers that the OEMs use.

So let me get this straight. They’re supposedly an operator who: -has access to the fleet management spreadsheets at Hillcrest -has access to the materials and procurement invoices for 5H6 and 5H7 -has access to all divisional fleet status spreadsheets. -frequents at least Russell carhouse enough to be chummy with the brass and have their ear regarding CLRV preservation. and seems to have the ability to cross the city of Toronto like Mary Poppins, posting in real time, all the while performing whatever job they were hired to do in the first place?
