  1. I just saw 0735 out as a training unit near BCC, I was very impressed with how she looks. To the naked eye, the average Brampton Transit passenger and even operator from the outside would have no idea that the bus was used and purchased from another transit agency.

Can you find out if they'll redo the express Orion buses? I can't get a straight answer from anyone reliable so far.

I'll see if I can find out, my hunch is that the Orions will be retired sooner rather than later so they won't be done. Hell none of the 2000s buses received the new livery and it's been 14 years.

With all of the relatively mild weather and lack of snow have they decided to try and do several intersections all at once?  There are Service Updates for Robert Speck, Hillcrest and Queensway in effect for today until further notice.  Does the Robert Speck closure impact through traffic on Robert Speck as there isn't a notice for the 10 BRISTOL-BRITANNIA or 76 CITY CENTRE-SUBWAY?

No routes 10 and 76 are able to cross Hurontario in both directions.

  4. I can confirm that all remaining 05 and 06s have been retired as the remaining units are parked at the back of Malton (adjacent to operator/mechanic overflow lot) with plates removed.

Just have a quick question is 2375 the only one in Express BLUE scheme for the whole order (#2375-2396)?

    Thanks~~

Yes, I would assume it was already built and painted before MiWay made the decision to convert all buses to orange and reached out to New Flyer to modify the remainder of the order.

Other than the repaints that have occurred with the majority of the D40LFs (and even the earlier 96 D40LFs and the 98 VIs), were any of the 02/03/04's fully rebuilt and repainted, or just refurbished?

I ask as is Brampton an agency that rebuilds its buses or waits until roughly 12-14 years to retire them? If that's the case, is or has there been consideration of rebuilding or refurbing any of the oldest ZUM XDE40s, built in 2010 at all?

To the best of my knowledge, the D40LFs have just been refurbished (there are still a few 02s and 03s waiting to be completed). In the last 10 years, Brampton Transit has grown exponentially so it's hard to say how long they will wait to retire buses now because the mileage on buses nowadays is far greater than that of buses from the 90s and earlier.

Went by Clark Garage on Saturday, noticed D40LF 0435 with quite the fire damage. Anyone here with a good inside source of info know what happened? Is it a write off? It appears the Orion Vs are all gone from the back also.

If I recall correctly it happened on the 52 at Charolais/Mill about six months ago. I'm not sure what they plan on doing with it but it is still plated unlike 0205 and 0315 next to it that are unplated.

From what i've experienced from being seated in the compartment, and from what i've heard from many others here are just a few issues:

-The mirror placement is horrendous.  It is very difficult to see passengers inside the bus, let alone if they are exiting via the rear doors

-There is a real lack of leg room for tall drivers in the drivers compartment as the panel is too low

-The dashboard makes it seem as though one is reading the hieroglyphics with all the symbols and as a result, drivers are essentially forced to look at a chart to see what the problem is with a bus

-The suspension makes for a really rough ride. Multiply whatever bumps you felt on the D40LFR and XD40 by 2

-The front door and operator seat is misaligned. While that's good for passengers, operators will have neck issues since it is difficult so make direct eye contact with a passenger

And I havent even got to what it's like from a passenger perspective. As i've said quite a number of times elsewhere, the bus is just awkwardly designed from head to toe.

It's become so rare that I post on the CPTDB but I read this and just have to applaud the post, I agree with everything on the list especially the lack of leg room and neck issues. I can't believe it's 2017 and Nova STILL hasn't fixed those two issues. It's as if they've decided to negligently ignore the feedback from thousands of transit operators across the continent for the past two decades. A class action lawsuit might scare them into finally doing something about it (even if the lawsuit goes nowhere), but I seriously doubt that will ever happen.

The dashboard I'll admit doesn't bother me, although I much prefer the New Flyer Xcelsior one, mirrors don't bother me but I'm also tall enough (6'5") that I never have blind spots (although looking left on the Nova and seeing the panel is irritating). The passenger view mirrors that were originally delivered with our (Brampton) 2014-17 Novas were insanely small and operators complained enough that they've been exchanged for ones very similar to those on the Xcelsiors.

Suspension is very bad as well but I've noticed an improvement in the 16s and 17s BUT that also could be just because they're newer so time will tell.

Everybody's entitled to their own opinion, and I totally respect that, but IMO other than the wider turning radius, there is NOTHING a Nova LFS bus has that is better than an New Flyer Xcelsior, NOTHING!!!

Safe to assume that most of them are out as I did see 1701, 03 and 04 midweek last week.

Anyhow, seems like these service changes for September seems a bit underwhelming in my opinion. Seems like the only big changes are the 501C - ZUM Queen between York U and Bramalea Transit Terminal VIA 407 as well as the new 104 - Chingcousy Express. Deosn't seem like anything too significant.

Wonder if the extension of the 505 got too much negative comments or suggestions that ti was pushed back for 2018? Or, if it would be a 505 extension, sor another ZUM route altogether, to which I did suggest a few posts back in this thread.

The 505 extension was always planned for September 2018, never this September.

  10. Anyone out Brampton-way seen any of the last batch of XDE60's for ZUM? I think this is the last batch as per that long contract with NFI for ZUM buses. I believe they're supposed to be 8 of them for this year then that's it for awhile I suppose.

Not yet, not that it matters anyways because they would be parked outside until the Sandalwood expansion is complete as there's no space for them in the current facility.

  11. No. There are many bus queue-jump lanes at intersections on Queen, Bovaird, and Steeles, with far-side bus stops, but these are basically extensions of right turn lanes that allow buses pass cars stopped at red lights and clear intersections quicker.

The majority of which do make a huge difference though, easily saving ten or more minutes per one way trip if you add up all the red lights avoided.

  12. Pardon the bump...

But I had noticed that routes which would (on their route maps), serve the Sheridan College campus just off of Steeles, showing the route line going into the campus. The 3, 4, 11 & 51 look like they all go into the Sheridan campus property.

I had only been in Brampton once about 6 weeks ago and I didn't notice any of those routes, other then the 52 or 53 being in the property and serving that stop before going onto Steeles and Brampton Gateway.

Is this an oversight when the maps were printed (they're even displayed similarly online too), by Brampton Transit or did they want people to get the faslse sense that all routes that happen to be on Steeles or turn onto Steeles like the 3 and 4 or the 11 and 51 go into Sheridan but actually don't?

Back in April, Brampton Transit staff said that a new roadway was being built that would connect the Sheridan College bus loop with McLaughlin Road, making it simple for buses off Steeles to enter/exit the campus. I guess it hasn't been built yet, much like the James Potter Road/ OBRY level crossing wasn't yet open when the map was published.

The terminal map for Sheridan College (in the printed map) shows 11/511 stops on Steeles Avenue, not on Sheridan College property.

The Sheridan College terminal was expected to be built and operational for September 2015. However, construction has yet to commence and I presume the college is responsible for the delay as any other major Brampton Transit project has at least started construction on time and been finished within reason of the estimated completion date. I personally don't see the need for a terminal there as the walking distance from even the westbound Steeles stop to the campus is extremely minimal.

  13. Just letting everyone know I will not be editing the wiki anymore if people keep changing "98xx, 98xx, 98xx-xx etc retired" to "some retired" and "02xx, 02xx-xx, 02xx" to "most refurbished".

And also, 1401-10 are Clark, 1411-15 are Sandalwood, I know I've put that in twice and it's been removed.

  14. just wondering if any of the D40LF still in the old scheme or not, or all of them have been repainted? Thank you

The 03s are not and approximately half of the 02s.

From YRT's 2016 Annual service plan

35 - Extend service from East Brampton through the West Vaughan Industrial area to Highway 7 and Highway 27

YRT 28-Expand service to the Ebenezer Neighbourhood in East Brampton operating along Cottrelle Boulevard and Castlemore Road and convert into Rush hour only service.

    http://www.yrt.ca/en/aboutus/resources/2016_ASP_PIC_Storyboards-Part2.pdf

I'd be very surprised if the 35 change happens, especially with the routing shown in the proposal as currently no buses travel westbound on Ebenezer Road. That doesn't mean it can't be changed but there's no benefit to it.
