Case in point, the firehall access along Queens Quay between Spadina and Rees. Not a few minutes go by where you don't see a motorist making an illegal u-turn across the ROW there, despite the many signs posted saying not to do so.

For some reason, I thought they had horns installed much earlier than that. I remember a driver telling me many many years ago the horns were pulled from the G's. But thanks for the correction
-
If I'm not mistaken, the PCCs are gong only. Interesting fact for those who didn't know, the horns on the ALRV/CLRV fleet were actually retrofitted using retired Gloucester subway car horns. Would anyone happen to know what year they were installed?

It has to be their video, but I just never expected their "official" union bashing could go that far... That is beyond head spinning! I'm guessing that they did or still do show that to new recruits for Wal-Mart?
-
Is that seriously a Wal-Mart made video???

I would've liked to have seen this tried, and very much have a tiny belief that the routing "could" work. I guess we will never find that out, unfortunately. With the construction currently tying up Roncesvalles as an option, it just gives the TTC an excuse to never try it. If I'm not mistaken, Steve Munro has also suggested a similar arrangement.

Quite the contrary about unionized jobs.. They are typically well paying, and some places even provide drug/dental/optical benefits, even for part timers. Sure you pay union dues, but the dues paid are not considered "taxable". So they reduce your "net" income at tax time. People are treated fairly (in MOST cases) and seniority plays a big role, depending on where you work. When a full time opportunity comes up, it's given to the "most senior" person who applied for the position, so there aren't any "favourites" picked for a full time job. There are many perks to a unionized environment, but there are some cases where the union can be a hindrance to a business. Picture this, you are working your ass off, meanwhile "Joe Schmuck" comes into work, sips on his coffee for 2 hours, chatting up a storm with whomever he comes into contact with. It obviously can get irritating... Some unions are stronger than others, and are willing to fight for your rights. There are also crap unions where all they do is give in to the company, and basically sell out the workers. From all my experience working in a unionized environment, I'm glad they are there, as useless as they can be at times. I'm paid a great wage, great benefits, and I am protected from "evil management".. This has been my experience. Some people have had the complete opposite happen to them. I would personally not recommend working for Wal-Mart. If you think your Timmy's is bad... I've heard so many horror stories out of that place over the years, it really does make me sick. They are your typical "extremely evil corporation." I know some people who do love working there, but stories like that are far and few between. In closing, I do wish you luck in your search for a better part time job. I hope that I have given you some good feedback that can be used. I'm sorry if I couldn't have been more helpful.

And of course, if the route actually did use Rosedale Valley Rd. it would become completely useless in terms of capturing any form of local ridership. The only upside to using that route is travel time, as there would only be a stop sign, and 4 traffic signals to contend with. If your only using 1 bus as it is, why waste it by carrying people from point A to point B, as opposed to getting riders along streets that actually have residential development along them... I know that you know this Dan, but I'm just putting that out there for those unfamiliar with the areas.

Do you happen to remember which companies you've seen? I drive the 401 daily, and have only seen what I have posted so far. The Hostess/Frito Lay train I saw was actually traveling along the 407! No wonder their chips are so expensive!

Is anybody else here heading to the auto show in Detroit this year? Apparently it's going to be a very good year. Ford has a 55000 square foot display there, their biggest ever. And Nissan is also coming back this year, after they skipped out in 2009.

That's neat! Being in Ontario, we aren't used to seeing too many double trailers. It was only recently that Ontario is now allowing a pilot project to allow for two 53' trailers to be hauled in a train. The only 2 companies I've seen doing it so far here are, Canadian Tire, and Hostess/Frito Lay. I know Sysco hauls double trailers, but their trailers are much shorter. Loblaw is looking into trying it out. It would sure come in handy for those runs from Irving Tissue, and Atlantic Packaging.

With the current configuration of the ramps there, it is not possible for a vehicle to go from Bayview Ave. to Bloor St. Only vehicles coming off the DVP can make movements to Bloor or Bayview, and vice versa.

You're right on the money. There is also a bridge at the bottom of that hill with a 10 ton weight restriction.

Oshawa to Oakville by bus? Yes, if you've got eight hours to spare

I would just like to start off by pointing out that I think some of the thoughts here expressed are completely out to lunch, and I am thankful that this isn't coming from a politician... Have you been paying attention to the whole DriveTest fiasco, that only got resolved after 5 short months... Where do you suggest these lines go? What technology would these lines use? How much money ($$$$$$$) would your network cost to build? Would this money fall out of the sky, or grow on trees? The last round of privatization has only benefited the private company that has agreed to buy whatever government asset was being auctioned off at the time. May I direct you to the Highway 407 ETR blunder? That contract between the province and the now "407 ETR Inc." was worded so airtight, and seductive, to the now FOREIGN owners that, the province has absolutely NO say in what happens with the highway. Toll rates continue to increase (which by the way, are known as the MOST expensive rates in the WORLD for a toll highway), plate stickers continue to be denied because of money owed, whether the person actually used the highway or not, complaints of a faulty billing system, etc etc.. I can keep going on and on about my gripes with the 407.. If you were a "private" company, who had to look out for shareholders, or personal interests, would you invest in a guaranteed money losing venture?... My point here is, it is an incredibly stupid idea to privatize. My tax dollars paid for all the infrastructure the TTC/GO/MT/BT/YRT/DRT/HSR, etc etc, currently uses. I do NOT want a private company (especially a foreign one!) to benefit on what MY tax dollars have paid for in the past. -
Thankfully I never went where Mike went, but I grew up right behind the dump. Not a pretty place!! Between that and Birchmount Park CI, I really couldn't tell which one was worse.....

Congrats Mike!! I guess there is hope for people who went to High School in Scarborough Sincerely wishing you all the best between you and your soon to be wife!

There are still a few. One that comes to mind that's still there is St. Helens Meat Packers.

CP24 is streaming the 3 aired episodes directly off their site.. Clicky! Apparently it's sometime in the new year. They haven't posted any info on CP24s website, other than "monthly".. I guess someone will post details when the time comes.
-
The show still went on uninterrupted. There was a guy in a safety vest riding shotgun with the operator, possibly another operator, who ran out and re-wired the car. They managed to get a shot of that from the CP24 truck. I found it funny that they left the automated announcements on for the whole trip as well.

You didn't miss much...

Upon looking at the pictures that Steve Munro posted of St. Clair. I have to say that it just makes St. Clair look horrid. The barrage of centre poles, traffic lights, and all the other tacky looking "street furniture".. It makes the street just look.. Well, it looks like crap. Yet, Spadina has kept its charm, and even with the added piece of PROW infrastructure down there, it just looks right. I just don't understand what went so terribly wrong in the planning of St. Clair. I had envisioned this grand avenue, much like Spadina has become with the ROW, but they butchered it to the beyond!! Clicky this picture, and you'll see what I mean... Sorry, I just wanted to get that rant out

TTC's Next Generations Doors Replacement.

I've seen many Danforth operators doing that back in the day. Surprised that the trend is only coming up now at Arrow. -
Reminds me of some e-mail someone sent me years ago. It's quite funny. Here's the text below: 15 Things to do at WalMart while your spouse/shopping partner is taking their sweet time: 1. Get 24 boxes of condoms & randomly put them in peoples carts when they aren't looking. 2. Set all the alarm clocks in Housewares to go off at 5 minute intervals. 3. Make a trail of tomato juice on the floor leading to the rest rooms. 4. Walk up to an employee and tell him/her in an official tone, 'Code 3 in housewares,...and see what happens. 5. Go to the Service Desk and ask to put a bag of M&M's on lay away. 6. Move a 'CAUTION - WET FLOOR' sign to a carpeted area. 7. Set up a tent in the camping department and tell other shoppers you'll invite them in if they bring pillows from the bedding department. 8. When a clerk asks if they can help you, begin to cry and ask 'Why can't you people just leave me alone? 9. Look right into the security camera, use it as a mirror and pick your nose. 10. While handling guns in the hunting department, ask the clerk if he knows where the anti-depressants are. 11. Dart around the store suspiciously while loudly humming the theme from 'Mission Impossible'. 12. In the auto department, practice your "Madonna look" using different size funnels. 13. Hide in a clothing rack and when people browse through, say "PICK ME! PICK ME!" 14. When an announcement comes over the loud speaker, assume the fetal position and scream "NO! NO! It's those voices again!!!" And last but not least: 15. Go into a fitting room, shut the door and wait a while and then yell loudly "Hey! You're out of toilet paper in here!!"

Too bad I had to miss that part. I had to leave for work during that break! But it's ok, I got it recorded on the PVR Got some watching to do now!

That was pretty funny ... I would have expected Adam to answer it with something like Toronto used to have it, got rid of it, etc etc.. But not even that from him
