  1. After much speculation, Hudson's Bay (a popular department store chain in Canada) has partnered with a newbie fintech (Financial Technology) provider called "Neo Financial" for the new Hudson's Bay MasterCard. This happened after Capital One Canada has terminated it's contract with Hudson's Bay and Costco Canada (more on Costco in Canada later) back in late 2020. The bad news is - if people who have the Hudson's Bay MasterCard from CAP1C (FYI, CAP1C = Capital One Canada) and wanted to get the new card provided by Neo, they will have to re-apply. Regrettably, they won't be getting the similar treatment when CAP1C helped former Costco AMEX (American Express) cardholders in Canada to transition to the new CAP1C Costco MasterCard a few years ago. That case happened when Costco USA changed providers from AMEX to Citibank Visa advising Costco customers in the USA to re-apply for the credit card. Still with Costco Canada, I'm waiting to see who will "pick up the mess" for the former CAP1C Costco MasterCard holders. I'm hoping that another Canadian provider will continue the contract. So far, it remains to be seen. This reply was posted from my Samsung Galaxy S20
  2. Tried to upload this from my Google Chrome web browser on my Galaxy S20 smartphone but sadly, it encountered an "Error -200" error when attaching, but this is what me and my dad had for dinner tonight. Me and my dad went on a trek from Ajax, ON to Oshawa, ON to a place called "The Bollywood Tacos" and they serve Mexican/Indian fusion cuisine. A Facebook group called "Durham Region Eats" (in which I'm a member of) made a mention about this place, so that is what intrigued me to do. As for the "Error -200" issue, I hope that the admins/mods can fix this issue I encountered. Going forward, mods - please offer a way for members to upload pictures to threads using web browser apps on smartphones.
  3. Paying off a mobile (cell) phone is like when you pay a car loan when you get a new car. Similar instances, similar payments - same principles. Still with financing, many retailers are nowadays offering in-store financing through a third party (one of the companies I know of out of my head is "Flexiti") - from electronic stores to furniture stores. When I bought a gaming laptop a whilr back, I used my VISA Infinite Credit Card that was provided/offered by my bank and it features purchase protection /warranty coverage. I also used one of my rewards points as well to offset the balance (one of the points that were destined for my future vacation - went towards the laptop).
  4. Something has brought me up just now and I've read an article that an animal rights group called "PETA" (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is telling people to stop using animal words as insults. Here's what I found from their Twitter page: This has brought my attention for quite some time because back in my elementary school days, my teacher discriminated me because my handwriting was (gulp) "chicken scratch". That "remark" really hunts me to this day. I told my parents about what had happened and sadly, they didn't do anything about it. At that time, I had no "means" on who to file a complaint against a teacher who did that remark against me. While that remark back then motiviated me to become a stronger person today (and the freedom to express myself), I must not forget on how teachers treat their students - no matter their ability, race and other related stuff. To this day, I'm demanding an apology from that teacher (who by now has since retired. If she was reading this post right now, I don't know what the consequences be like). If I were to be a parent of a child who struggles because of the remark the teacher did to his/her, I would have step up to the plate and file a complaint against the teacher (and eventually, the school). This reminds me on what @GTAmissions1 (sorrty for squeezing you in but, I have to) discussed about how I complained to the senior authorities about a social worker's biased service with "poor quality".
  5. I heard in the news that the Gamestop stock - is the new oil. I don't understand why investors wanted to jump in and invest in the company and it's stock shook up! I would imagine if the investors of teachers pension fund - would like to jump into the game (pun intended).
  6. To anyone in Canada who plays the national lottery games of Lotto 6/49, Lotto Max and/or Daily Grand/Grand Vie (whether if you're a local or a visitor): please check your tickets in the province that it was bought. Even though that the aforementioned lottery games are national, you cannot check a lottery ticket that is bought in another province. For example, if you play a Lotto Max game in BC (despite being a national lottery) and happen to won a prize in that province, it must be claimed there. I have seen an instance of that issue earlier today at a convenience store when I was waiting in line to buy a lottery ticket (and no, it wasn't for one of the national lotteries) - a customer tries to ask a cashier to check their Lotto 6/49 lottery ticket from another province (unbeknownst to the customer, that lottery ticket was issued in Quebec). The cashier who worked at the convenience store tells the customer that "I cannot accept this ticket as it was issued outside of Ontario." (or something like that). The customer tried to persuade the cashier but the latter was stern and firm. Owning to prevent such an escalation, the customer left the store. To summarize: Buy a lottery ticket in that province, check your ticket and claim your prize in the same province.
  7. ICAMI (In case anyone missed it), DRT is collaborating with Metrolinx on ironing out a solution for post-secondary students: Although there's little information to share, I'm hoping that this will overcome the U-Pass issues that post-secondary students are very upset with ever since the pandemic. In other news, many DRT bus announcements now have a statement add that "Face coverings or masks are required". For example: "Route 900 to Oshawa - Face coverings or masks are required" (or something like that).
  8. Poutine. Anyhoo, Soccer Team for Edmonton or Rugby Team for Edmonton? It would be a miracle if the former would be good (if the city joins the league in which the Toronto FC team or even the team in which the Hamilton Forge FC is in - no wait, Edmonton already has a team on the same league along with Hamilton Forge FC) for Edmonton.
  9. It seems that racism and discrimation will never end and will remain with us for the rest of our lives. There was one time that I was "unfairly stopped" by mall security a decade ago (2011). From what I had remembered, these folks think I was familiar to them (based on my similar appearance). Here's what I recall: 1) Mall security stopped me due to the fact that they (assumingly) think I know them based on my appearance. 2) I was then asked to provide ID (in which I was compelled to show). 3) Mall security relays the details to their management while at the same time asked me questions. 4) After about 5 minutes, I was let go. This really had a detrimental effect on my well-being on what I had encountered. At first, I'm worried that they are going to issue a "notice of tresspassing" even though I didn't do anything wrong. I would have escalated this to the mall's management or even to the Human Rights Commission! For the latter, it would have involved a lengthy and costly process. This even reminded me about the lady I had mentioned earlier in this thread. I now remembered the name of the lady who suffered the similar ordeal - but against a store. Her name: "Lisa Calderon". She even decided to file a human rights complaint against the store as well (two years after that uneventul and traumatic incident). It had a detrimental effect on her too.
  10. 1 D40LF. Anyhoo, paper cup or styrofoam cup?
  11. I really wished that many stores (and even transit agencies) - should offer Alipay and WeChat Pay a form for paying for transit. One of the newer PRESTO Card (a transit farecard system in Greater Toronto & Hamilton Area and Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) readers have a barcode/QR code reader that will eventually accept e-tickets and even QR code payments. I would imagine if the PRESTO team decides to test pilot QR Code payments, then they will choose York Region Transit as a testing ground. The reason: York Region has a very high demographic of Chinese people living working and (indirectly) studying there (excuse for being too political). Still with Alipay and WeChat Pay, one of my local computer stores accept/offer Alipay and WeChat Pay (along with China Union Pay and Japan's JCB) as a form of payment. Even one of my local 7-Eleven offer that too.
  12. (I've been thinking about to discuss this for some time, but) I really wish that people who work in retail (especially those who work in "loss prevention") - should be trained on how to deal with customers with disabilities (visible or invisible). There was one time that I used to "boycott" against a music store over 20 years ago (well before the advent of social media) in protest. One of the workers accused me of stealing but actually, I didn't steal anything. My mom was very upset about how the store handled my treatment. I was a bit traumatized (and humiliated) back then (and at that time, I didn't have any "means" (back then) on how and where to make a complaint aganist the music store - it was a once popular music store chain that sold CDs and cassettes). I would have complained to the Human Rights Commission about this, but as I had pointed out - I didn't have any means back then. I sometimes compared that against one lady who got falsely accused by a store employee of stealing at a clothing store, but instead she took pictures of some clothing that she wanted to share to one of her friends (or family members). That embarassing incident was even caught on tape (she even vented her anger on social media - which garnered over one hundred thousand views). As for that employee who accused the lady of stealing - she was eventually sacked (fired, canned, terminated). I once invited her to guest on my live stream for my Twitch channel 1.5 years ago (in 2019), but sadly - she didn't return my message for that request.
  13. Not just a cab driver, but a ridesharing driver too! There are may be times in which I have to use a ridesharing service (excuse the collusion here) - during the cold winter months. In the summertime, I utilize my bicycle or even a pair of rollerblades/rollerskates!
  14. Alberta. I've visited Alberta (as far as Calgary) back in the summer 2017. It took me 12 years (yes, 12 years) to make my dream of visiting Calgary - a reality. Those reasons still remain a closely-guarded secret. Anyhoo, Don Cherry on YouTube or Twitch? It would be a miracle if Don Cherry should have his own Twitch channel. Some of his older fans don't even know what Twitch is.
  15. This CBC Sports intro - brought me memories of my childhood days (it even reminded me of the PlayStation boot up screen - when that gaming console was released back in 1995): Still with CBC Sports, would it be a good idea - if CBC airs some broadcasts involving an unlikely type of "genre" called E-Sports (aka Electronic Sports that involve video gaming)?
  16. Derek Aucoin, known for being a well known pitcher of the (now-defunct) Montreal Expos baseball team had passed away at the age of 50. https://globalnews.ca/news/7543685/former-montreal-expos-pitcher-derek-aucoin-passes-away-from-brain-cancer/
  17. Still, many people wanted to cut the cord (meaning cancelling their TV service altogether). I have an OTA HDTV antenna in my dad's room as a "test tube". A while back, we had received channels from not only here in Canada (most local channels), but also local TV channels (and sub-channels) from the USA (we live within range of Lake Ontario). One of my favourite local HDTV sub-channels from the states are "Charge!" and "TBD".
  18. I was able to get myself a gaming laptop a few days ago. That will kept me entertained during the lockdown. It's not just electronics that are in demand - even powerline networking adapters, network cables and routers are in demand too!
  19. I really wished that TD should offered Google Pay (and Samsung Pay) in Canada. Although I don't deal with that bank, it really sucks that TD in Canada only offered Apple Pay. All other users with Android devices - have to suffer from using a substandard app that TD offered called the "TD Wallet". There is a petition online demanding that TD should offer an alternative for non-Apple users. If I was a politician, I would introduce a private member's bill "mandating" that all banks and credit unions in Canada to offer mobile payments based on the standards (not limited to Apple, Android, etc.).
  20. Banned for saying that Fox News sucks!
  21. This song (Overwatch fans, spot anything familiar?) - with this song dedicated to Adam Skelly (the guy behind Adamson BBQ who made the headlines:
  22. While I came home from the Oshawa Centre earlier today, I stumbled upon to find a little sign at the bottom of one of the "inactive" DRT bus stops. Do you know if this could be the precursor of relaunching the service in the future or will be part of the On-Demand service areas?
  23. It has been days since Alex Trebek passed away as a host of "Jeopardy!". The only problem remains: who will replace Alex Trebek? Would it be nice if "George Strombo" is an ideal candidate for Trebek's successor? I mean, really - Strombo did a brief stint on HNIC, but sadly it only lasted a year and a half. FYI, HNIC = Hockey Night in Canada
  24. Where the testing takes place at a disused concert hall.. Meanwhile, the Bank of Canada is thinking who should be sporting the next Canadian Dollar bill after the success of Viola Desmond appearing on a CDN$10 bill. They think that Frederick Banting would be the next one to appear on a CDN$5 bill...
