    What's with the inactivity here?

Anyways, I was curious if any of the 2010's have retired yet. Any info?

Not sure what kind of activity you're expecting? The last batch of deliveries have all been in service for a few months and there's nothing else ordered yet so they can't really retire anything until something new arrives to replace it.

    Question.

Can someone please edit the wiki because the 2006s and 2008s (possibly all done), are still listed as "Active" on the wiki. Can someone change it?

I think maybe they're still under active because some are still training buses?

Is there any indication about the ATU and the City going back to the negotiation table?   The News is saying both sides have been reaching out to each other but both sides are saying neither is true.    Allot of us are anxious as to when our much needed bus service is going to return.

The union claims they're open to moving their numbers but the city would have to change their final offer as well and so far they haven't said they're willing. Guess we'll see how complicated things get with the GC this week.

  4. Probably the first time an HSR and TTC bus have been beside each other in assembly at New Flyer in a long time. I had no idea they were receiving so many, guess I'll have to head over to the wiki to reacquaint myself.

  5. I like how the terminal is a bit closer to the street but at the same time I don't like how (much like it is now) theres basically no proper pedestrian walkway from the terminal to the mall. Eastgate terminal is a lot better in that regard with a wide, covered walkway with benches from the terminal to the front doors. I dunno how much control the city has over that but I'm sure CF could afford to do better there. When the system redesign happens, this new terminal is gonna be a lot busier than it is now and I hope they don't expect all of those pedestrians to cross a sea of parking spots.

The buses kept for training purposes are 704, 706, 710, 712, 714, 715, 716, 718, 721, 803. These vehicles have had fareboxes, bike racks, presto readers, radios, etc. removed but are still licensed for the road and maintained.

Does the HSR usually hold back so many buses for training or is that a new thing? I don't recall any buses being stripped of their equipment to be kept for training before and certainly not a dozen of them.

Even the DE60LFRs were affected pretty bad during the COVID days when they were on the 2 Barton every single day.

Yeah I remember they were terrible on the stretch from Kenilworth to Strathearne and then again between Woodward and the RHVP. My butt definitely left the seat several times and my neck took a heck of a beating. I can't imagine how bad that is for drivers to go through all day long.

  8. I hope the new garage will allow the HSR to eventually make some serious service enhancements through fuel, labor and time savings from not having to deadhead to/from the mountain garage. Will also be nice to see the fleet expanded over the next few decades.

  9. With every new order of buses that comes along, I'm surprised that the HSR is able to shuffle things around enough to fit them in at the mountain garage.

Anybody know whats going on with the construction of the new garage? I figure that must at least be beyond the design phase by now? I tried to google it but the latest thing I found was from 2020.

  10. Yeah, I remember that. At the beginning they were used exclusively on the B-Line, University and King on weekends but after a few years they started to make their way over to the 25/26 and 27. Now they pretty much go wherever they're needed so I guess the paint scheme doesn't really mean anything beyond only being on artics. When the 2008 D40LF's were first delivered, the first couple of them had gold paint instead of yellow but they dropped that idea before the rest of the order was even delivered and the gold ones were repainted. I doubt they'd be interested in changing things up at this point, at least until the LRT is running though I'd imagine it'll have its own Metrolinx paint job unless the HSR ends up operating it.

You seem qualified.  Apply to a transit system and make changes.   Being a keyboard warrior won't solve anything.

Just don't apply to Miway.  Word is you didn't make it past the 1st round.

How does Miway have anything to do with the HSR?

  12. I can still remember when the 08 buses were new and some of them were delivered with gold paint instead of yellow until the HSR changed their mind. I didn't think they were due for retirement until I did the math and realized that they're 14 years old now. Time flies.

I've seen that before, I think its just supposed to come up when the unit is started or running in some kind of diagnostic mode? I've been on a few buses where it just displayed that the entire time and the announcer system wasn't working.

I have heard in the past that they were going to reuse the Wentworth yard, the one they used to use and then closed, and was being used by GO for a number of years. If that is the case then a bunch of buses could operate from there and it would actually benefit certain routes as currently there are some buses that leave mountain garage or return, that deadhead for 35-45 minutes. A supervisor I know there was telling me that at one point they had about 15 buses in the morning that left the yard and drove 30-45 minutes before entering service, and then back at the end of the shift or day. That is a lot of downtime being paid out for a city that is not that big. At 30 minutes for 15 buses that is 450 minutes of deadheading time that is being paid to different drivers with no customers/fare revenue. At least having the Wentworth yard operating again, there could be substantial deadheading savings. Meaning that it could go into improving service without adding more buses.

The new garage at that site was funded by the federal government last summer.

Here's the PDF from the public consultation event in 2019. You'll see on page 5 that they do point out the deadheading issue you brought up.

So im assuming the order is larger then 11 buses. Where are we going to keep them? MTC barely has space for the 11 buses we brought back in fall 2021

Thats probably why they're replacement, not expansion.

  16. Salt and dirt accumulates much more on outdoor surface vehicles than it does inside subway trains since people are literally stepping right in off the street. Not really a fair comparison. Winter is just really harsh on buses, it doesn't help that Hamilton doesn't plow sidewalks which means even more salt, snow and dirt is pulled into the buses than in some other cities.
