TTC Operations

Service along Keele Street was originally contracted out to the Toronto Transit Commission by Vaughan Transit. This involved TTC operating the buses and collecting the fares, but Vaughan Transit paying for any losses in running the service. A TTC fare was required for passengers traveling south of Steeles Avenue, but only a Vaughan fare was required if the entire trip was north of Steeles Avenue. When Vaughan Transit was acquired by York Region Transit, the contract was picked up as well, with similar conditions.

TTC first began operating along Keele Street to the CNR yard north of Highway 7 as early as 1965, as part of route 41C Keele. With the opening of the Spadina Subway to Wilson Station in 1978, route 41C was replaced by route 107 Keele North. By 1996, there were 3 branches: route 107C operated to McNaughton Road (presently 107D), route 107 to Rutherford Road, and route 107B to Langstaff Road, looping via Rivermede Road. Routes 107 and 107C combined had service 18 hours a day, 7 days a week, and route 107B provided extra rush hour service to the Langstaff industrial area.

In 1998, 2 additional branches were created: Route 107F (to Langstaff, looping with 107B) and route 107D (to McNaughton, looping with route 107C). These branches now looped through York University, while the other 3 branches skipped it. By 2002, the D and F branches had disappeared, with all service now operating through York University. Route 107C was extended north to Teston Road, looping on Drummond Drive and Cranston Park Avenue, and route 107B was extended to the new Rutherford GO Station, via Basaltic Road. Route 107B also had increased service hours, and the 2 routes combined had full service south of Rivermede Road. In 2003, route 107D was reinstated, looping at McNaughton Road. One year later, a new branch 107F was created, operating during rush hours to Kirby Road. By the summer of 2006, routes 107B, 107C, and 107F began to serve York University year-round, as opposed to September-May previously.

Routes 107B, 107C, 107D, and 107F were affected by the York University strike between November 6, 2008 and January 29, 2009.

On September 6, 2009, branch 107D was changed to loop via McNaughton Road, Eagle Rock Way, and Troon Avenue. The off-street loop next to the Maple Community Centre was abandoned.

Routes 107B, 107C, 107D, and 107F were declared fully accessible in February 2012.

Route 107F was discontinued on June 24, 2013 and replaced by an extension of route 22A King City during rush hours.

YRT Operations

  • December 17, 2017 - With the opening of the Line 1 subway extension to Vaughan, TTC service north of Steeles Avenue was eliminated, and YRT began operating the route as 107 Keele. YRT buses operate from Pioneer Village Terminal, through York University, and north on Keele. Branches were simplified, with route 107 operating to Teston during all time periods, and route 107B operating to Rutherford GO during weekdays.
  • April 29, 2018 - Service between the York University Campus and Pioneer Village Terminal is revised to operate via Ian Macdonald Boulevard and Northwest Gate, no longer using Founders Road.
  • September 2, 2018 - The route was restructured to discontinue direct service to York University, with buses bypassing York University via Steeles Avenue West to terminate at Pioneer Village Terminal.
