Toronto Transit Commission 4575-4601

Toronto Transit Commission 4575-4601 were 1939-1940 St. Louis Car Co PCC A-10 class air-electric streetcars, originally built new for the Cincinnati Street Railway (Cincinnati, Ohio).

All were built new for the Cincinnati Street Railway in 1939-1940. The TTC purchased 52 PCC cars secondhand from Cincinnati in July 1950, which included 27 air-electrics numbered 1100-1126 (that became TTC A-10 class cars) and 25 later all-electric cars numbered 1150-1174 (that became TTC A-9 class cars 4550-4574). They were shipped by railway flatcar to the TTC's Hillcrest Shops between September and December of 1950. There they were modified for service in Toronto, repainted, and assigned new numbers. TTC 4575 was originally built as a 1939 demonstrator car (CSR 1100) and featured some distinct bodywork details and rear windows.

Most of the A-10 series of air-electric PCC's were retired in the mid-late 1960's with the opening of the new Bloor-Danforth subway line in 1966 and its subsequent extensions in 1968 (as air-electric cars were generally disposed of before all-electric cars).

Most of the retired A-10 cars were part of a group sold to Alexandria, Egypt in the 1960's. Some remaining cars continued in service into 1970-71. Six A-10 class cars (4578, 4586, 4589, 4593, 4597 and 4599) were part of a group of 10 TTC PCCs purchased by Transportes Eléctricos de Tampico (Tampico, Mexico) in 1971-1972. Most were shipped south to Mexico on flatcars, but payment not received for car 4578 so it was not sent, and was later scrapped by the TTC in 1974.

Fleet numbers 4600-4601 were later re-used in the 1980's by rebuilt A-15 class PCC cars.
