Kitchener GO Station is a GO Transit train station in Kitchener, ON. It is located north of Victoria St., between Weber St. and Ahrens St.

The station platform is on the south side of the tracks, stretching east of Weber to east of Ahrens. The station building is located halfway between Weber and Ahrens, with the Passenger Pick-up & Drop-off in front of the station.

The layover yard is located west of the station, just west of the King Street crossing. It stores the two trains that provided service to Kitchener in the afternoon for the night.

History

Trains have been serving Kitchener Station since the 1850s, although the current station building dates to 1897. Passenger services were initiated by Grand Trunk Railway, which were later taken over by CN, and presently VIA, which operates 3 trains each way daily between Toronto and Sarnia.

GO introduced service to Waterloo Region in Fall 2009 with route 25 to Square One, which included a 25A branch to meet trains at Milton GO Station. An Environmental Assessment was started in 2007 to study the feasability of upgrading the track between Georgetown and Kitchener for potential train service, with construction starting in 2010. The first GO train served Kitchener on December 19, 2011, although there was a free train shuttle the day before between Kitchener and Guelph to celebrate the introduction of train service to the two cities.

Despite the station being opened, platform extensions were not (and have still not been) complete; currently only the first five cars open at Kitchener.

Connecting routes

Two routes stop on streets outside the station:

The Kitchener Train Shuttle is operated by a BusPLUS vehicle and connects the station with Charles Street Transit Terminal, where connections to other routes can be made.
