History
On Sunday, July 1, 2007, all bus service operating out of Southgate Transit Centre moved to a temporary location north of 51 Avenue on 111 Street. There were minor modifications to the schedules and routes at the new location. This move was expected to last until mid-2008 due to the construction of a new Southgate LRT Station and Transit Centre on the old site as part of the South LRT extension to Century Park.
Two large heated shelters and a number of standard transit bus shelters were available on the temporary site as well as security cameras, Help phones, pay phones and on-site travel information.
A unique energy efficient feature of the shelter is that customers press a button inside the structure to turn on the heater. The result is the shelter is heated only when it’s occupied. This heating technique has been successfully implemented in both Toronto and Winnipeg transit systems.
